Surface expansion:

NEMA boards and sheets will expand and contract due to temperature variations, as will virtually all materials. To reduce or eliminate open joints the preferred method is the use of adhesive commonly called PVC ‘pipe glue’ or PVC ‘pipe cement’. When bonded correctly with this type of adhesive the joint becomes an integral part of the structure.
